We believe in preventative and wellness care because it is the easiest and most cost-effective way to ensure your pet has as many happy, healthy years with you as possible.
Pets age much faster than we do, and they tend to hide symptoms of illness and injury as a matter of instinct. That’s we always recommend a physical wellness exam at least once per year for adult pets and then every six months for senior pets.
If you’ve recently adopted or purchased a pet, we encourage you to book an appointment for their first examination as soon as possible. Younger animals are vulnerable to illness, and this will allow us to make sure they have the vaccinations they need, reassure you of their health, and give us a starting point for their medical records.
At a wellness exam, our veterinarian will do a nose-to-tail check of:
- Temperature and weight
- Eyes, ears, and mouth
- Heart and lungs
- Abdomen and skin
- Bones and joints
- Teeth/Dental health
At these annual exams, we may recommend an internal exam, which can include routine diagnostic blood screenings, fecal tests, and urinalysis. Combined with a wellness exam, these tests are the best way to detect problems early, before they become more serious and expensive health issues.
We also strongly recommend spay/neuter and microchipping for your new friend. Plus, the wellness exam is a great time to discuss your pet’s nutrition and any behavior questions you might have.
